Empowering Faith Leaders. Transforming Communities. Creating Positive Faith in Action.
INERELA+ Kenya (International Network of Religious Leaders Living with or Personally Affected by HIV – Kenya Chapter) is an interfaith, faith-based organization established in 2004 to mobilize and empower religious leaders and faith communities to address pressing social and health challenges.
For over two decades, we have worked alongside churches, mosques, faith-based organizations, community groups, and development partners to promote health, dignity, inclusion, and social transformation. Our work is rooted in the belief that faith leaders are uniquely positioned to inspire positive change, challenge harmful stigma, and influence attitudes and behaviors within their communities.
Through advocacy, capacity building, health promotion, gender justice initiatives, community mobilization, and social protection programs, we empower religious leaders to become champions of hope, compassion, and resilience. We engage communities in addressing HIV, TB, gender inequality, stigma, discrimination, and other barriers that prevent individuals from living healthy and fulfilling lives.
Over the years, INERELA+ Kenya has empowered more than 2,000 religious leaders and reached over 5 million congregants with life-changing messages on health, inclusion, human rights, and community wellbeing. Our programs continue to strengthen faith communities as powerful agents of transformation, helping build a more just, equitable, and healthy society for all.
INERELA+ Kenya works through faith communities to promote health, dignity, inclusion, gender equality, and social transformation. Our mission and vision guide our commitment to empowering religious leaders as agents of positive change across Kenya.
To equip, empower, and engage religious leaders living with or personally affected by HIV and TB to live positively and openly as heralds of change within their faith communities and counties.
In a nation where HIV and TB related stigma, transmission, and deaths are eliminated through the active participation of religious leaders,We envision empowered faith communities that champion dignity, equality, compassion, and sustainable development for all people.
Programs Creating Positive Faith In Action
At INERELA+ Kenya, we believe that faith communities have a unique and powerful role in transforming lives, promoting health, defending human rights, and building resilient societies. Through a network of religious leaders, community champions, youth advocates, and strategic partners, we implement programs that address some of the most pressing social, health, and development challenges facing communities across Kenya. Our work is rooted in compassion, dignity, inclusiveness, and the conviction that faith leaders can be catalysts for lasting positive change.
For over two decades, INERELA+ Kenya has been at the forefront of HIV and TB advocacy, working to eliminate stigma, discrimination, and misinformation while promoting prevention, treatment, and care. Through our network of religious leaders, we challenge harmful myths and encourage open dialogue about HIV and TB within congregations and communities.
Our advocacy efforts are guided by a holistic approach that emphasizes safer practices, access to treatment and nutrition, voluntary counselling and testing, and empowerment of individuals and communities. We engage policymakers, government institutions, county leadership, and development partners to ensure that commitments made toward HIV and TB prevention and treatment are translated into meaningful action.
Strong communities require informed and empowered leaders. Through our capacity-building programs, INERELA+ Kenya invests in the development of religious leaders, youth advocates, women leaders, and community champions who serve as agents of transformation within their communities.
We organize training workshops, dialogue forums, mentorship programs, and theological reflection sessions that strengthen knowledge and skills on HIV prevention, gender equality, child protection, human rights, leadership, advocacy, and community mobilization.
Over the years, thousands of religious leaders from diverse faith traditions have benefited from our training programs, enabling them to effectively disseminate life-saving information, challenge harmful practices, and provide support to vulnerable populations.
Access to quality healthcare remains a critical challenge for many communities. INERELA+ Kenya works to increase uptake of HIV testing and treatment services by leveraging the trust and influence of faith communities.
Through partnerships with health facilities, county governments, and development partners, we conduct awareness campaigns, community mobilization activities, and referral programs that encourage individuals to know their HIV status and seek timely treatment. Special attention is given to underserved populations, including children, adolescents, young people, and men who may face barriers to accessing health services.
Our community health interventions promote early diagnosis, linkage to care, treatment adherence, and stigma-free access to healthcare services. By integrating health promotion within faith settings, we create safe spaces where individuals can access information, support, and referrals without fear of discrimination.
Ending gender inequality and violence requires the active involvement of men and boys. Through our Male Engagement Program, INERELA+ Kenya works with male religious leaders, community elders, youth leaders, and traditional leaders to promote positive masculinity and gender-transformative attitudes.
The program encourages men to become advocates for gender equality, champions against violence, and role models within their families and communities.
Through community dialogues, mentorship programs, and awareness campaigns, participants are challenged to question harmful gender norms and embrace respectful, equitable relationships.
INERELA+ Kenya is committed to protecting the rights and dignity of vulnerable populations, including women, children, widows, people living with HIV, and marginalized communities. Our Human Rights and Legal Aid Program promotes awareness of legal rights while improving access to justice.
We train religious leaders and community representatives on human rights principles, family law, land and property rights, child protection, and anti-discrimination laws. Through partnerships with legal professionals, we provide legal education, legal aid services, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms that help communities resolve conflicts peacefully.
The program also addresses issues such as inheritance disputes, property rights violations, discrimination against people living with HIV, and gender-based violence.
